The car is the area directly in contact with passengers. During maintenance, it’s necessary to check whether the car walls, floor, and ceiling are damaged or loose, ensuring that the structure remains stable.

  Mechanical System Maintenance

Car and Counterweight: The car is the area directly accessible to passengers. During maintenance, it’s essential to inspect the car walls, floor, and ceiling for any damage or looseness, ensuring that the structure remains stable. At the same time, the balance condition of the counterweight assembly must not be overlooked. The counterweight helps balance the car’s weight, thereby reducing the load on the traction machine. If there’s an issue with the counterweight assembly—such as worn guide rails or loose shoe guides—it can lead to unstable elevator operation and even pose a safety hazard. Therefore, regularly checking the flatness and cleanliness of the counterweight guide rails, as well as the wear condition of the shoe guides, and promptly adjusting or replacing worn components are critical steps in ensuring smooth and reliable elevator operation.

Traction System: The traction machine, serving as the “heart” of the elevator, provides the power needed for its operation. During maintenance, it’s essential to check the lubrication condition of the traction machine, ensuring that all components are adequately lubricated to minimize wear and tear. At the same time, monitor the operating temperature and noise levels of the traction machine. If the temperature is excessively high or the noise level is abnormal, it could indicate a malfunction in internal parts, and such issues should be promptly addressed. The traction steel wire rope, acting as the “lifeline” connecting the elevator car to the counterweight, requires regular inspection for signs of wear and broken wires. Once the wear exceeds the specified limit or broken wires are detected, the rope must be replaced immediately to prevent the elevator car from falling due to a rope failure.

  Electrical System Maintenance

Control System: The elevator’s control system acts like the “brain,” directing all of the elevator’s operational movements. Maintenance personnel must regularly inspect the electrical components inside the control cabinet—such as contactors and relays—to check whether their contacts are burned or aged, ensuring that electrical connections remain sound. At the same time, the control system’s software should be updated and maintained to guarantee accurate and reliable logic control. If the control system malfunctions, the elevator may experience issues such as erratic operation or inaccurate leveling, seriously jeopardizing passenger safety.

Safety Circuit: The safety circuit is the final line of defense for the safe operation of an elevator. It consists of multiple safety switches, such as the speed governor switch, the safety gear switch, and the buffer switch. During maintenance, each of these switches must be checked individually to ensure that their actions are sensitive and reliable. Once an abnormality occurs during elevator operation, a switch in the safety circuit will quickly activate, cutting off the elevator’s power supply and bringing the elevator to a halt, thereby preventing the accident from escalating.

  Maintenance of safety protection devices

Speed Governor and Safety Gear: The speed governor monitors the elevator’s running speed. When the elevator exceeds its rated speed, the speed governor triggers the safety gear to activate. During maintenance, the speed governor must be cleaned, lubricated, and its activation speed verified for accuracy. As for the safety gear, its wedge blocks and guide rail clearance should be inspected to ensure that, upon activation of the speed governor, the safety gear can promptly clamp onto the guide rail, bringing the car to a stop.

Buffer: The buffer is installed at the bottom of the elevator shaft and is designed to absorb the kinetic energy of the elevator car in the event of an uncontrolled descent, thereby reducing the impact. During maintenance, it’s essential to check the oil level (for hydraulic buffers) or the condition of the springs (for spring buffers) to ensure that they can properly perform their buffering function when needed.
